The wonderful thing about hiking across a lake is that there is no uphill. Pulling a toboggan instead of carying a backpack is also an added benefit! Camping on the other side of Atlin Lake on Teresa Island, you will be surrounded by mountains which seem to rise right out of the lake.
Distance: 20 km
Elevation Gain: 0 m (0 ft)
Time: 6 hours
Drive to Atlin and head towards Atlin Lake from downtown. You can start from the boat launch near the obvious large, white boat - the M.V. Tarahne.
For obvious reasons, this hike can't be done until winter.

It is best to file a trip report with the Atlin RCMP before heading out. The RCMP building is at the corner of 1st Street and Discovery Avenue. If no one is there, you can use the phone on the front of the building.
From the boat launch, orient yourself with the coordinates at the far side of the lake so that you can walk in as straight a line as possible. There isn't much in the way of landmarks, just head towards the other side!
There are some campsites on the other side of the lake, and most of them make use of sheltered bays which minimize the strong winds which blow down the length of Atlin Lake. It's best to find one of these sheltered sites so that you are out of the wind.
